Cindy
Appel (aka Cynthianna Appel) describes herself as "a novelist, columnist,
essayist, manuscript evaluator, book reviewer, and freelance writer--but not
necessarily in that order on any given day." She resides in St. Louis County,
Missouri, with her husband, two daughters, a sleepy hamster and one very testy
rabbit. Her first highly acclaimed contemporary romance novel,
The
Fixer-Uppers from Wings ePress,
was followed closely by
Country Boy,
City Girl (Publish America
Inc.) Her first non-fiction, how-to book tentatively titled, Slaying the
Manuscript-Eating Slush Pile Monster
(Gryphon Books for Writers), is slated for a Spring 2004 release.
Cindy's short fiction appears in the anthology Three Naked Ladies Playing Cellos from Damn Yankee Press. Her award-winning column, Every Day Is Mother's Day, can be found online in the Miscellaneous Ramblings e-newsletter as well as her web site. Her articles and inspirational essays have appeared in over thirty publications, including the first two volumes of the God Allows U-Turns series from Promise Press (Barbour Publishing).
Cindy's book and theatre review skills landed her an honorable mention in the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors contest for commentary/criticism. Some of her past lives have included stints working as a caseworker for the Texas Department of Human Services, a substance abuse counselor and a radio disc jockey. She obtained her degree in psychology from the University
of
Texas-Permian Basin. Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away she studied film.
Cindy is a past president of the Missouri
Chapter of the Romance Writers of America and a long-time member of the
Darkstormy Writers Group. She also
belongs to the Saturday Writers Group
and the Romance Writers of Americaand
has written numerous articles about crafting and submitting manuscripts.
In her spare time, Cindy sings with the Sweet Adelines International
championship chorus, The River
Blenders, and in the festival choir of the Lutheran Church of the
Resurrection. She enjoys tutoring English-as-a-Second-Language students so
eventually they'll be able to read her books.
Known for her outrageous sense of humor and her quick smile, Cindy is happiest
when hiding behind her computer terminal typing her heart out and avoiding
telephone sales pitches.
