Literary Anthology on Fat
What Are You Looking At?
Fat, as a matter of fact. The editors of the first fat fiction and poetry
anthology seek previously unpublished personal essays and memoirs for their
second anthology. We are looking for creative nonfiction that explores obesity
and the fat experience from a unique perspective. Work should not
exceed 8,000 words, and should be received by
August 31, 2003. Send
manuscripts and SASEs to:
Ira Sukrungruang,
SUNY Oswego, English
Dept., 207E
Swetman Hall, Oswego, NY 13126.
The editors of TATTOO HIGHWAY
an online journal of prose, poetry and art,
seeks quality short fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry and graphics for
Issue #7, Summer/Fall 2003.
Deadline: June 15.
The theme for this issue is "Mass Transit." As always, feel free to
interpret literally or figuratively, as you wish.
Once again we're featuring our CONTEST: "A Picture Worth 500 Words." Details on
the TH main page,
http://www.tattoohighway.org/.
GENERAL GUIDELINES: We like fresh, vivid language, and we like stories and poems
that are actually *about* something. If they have a bit of an edge, if they
provoke us to think, so much the better. Submissions may be of any length.
However, we particularly welcome poetry and very short prose or cross-genre*
pieces (1000 words or fewer), since they are "screen-reader friendly." We
encourage hypertext and new media (Flash) submissions, also photographs and
original graphics in gif or jpg format.
Writers may submit up to 5 poems or 2 prose pieces. While we prefer to see work
that has not been previously published, we do consider work that has appeared in
small-circulation print journals.
HOW TO SUBMIT: Email submissions to
smcaulay@csuhayward.edu, as a Rich Text
Format (RTF) attachment or as plain text in the body of your message, and with
TH7 in the subject line. For hypertext and Flash submissions, provide us with an
URL where we may view the work online. Gif and jpg files should
be no more than 100 dpi, and we reserve the right to resize large images --
a courtesy to readers with dial-up internet connections.
* "Cross-genre" = prose-poems, excerpts, shards, work that falls into cracks
between established genres -- anything we like that's not easily categorized.

Love
Texas Style:
The Lonestar State's Women Share True Stories About Their Most Romantic Moments
Stories for Love Texas Style must be submitted by Texas women.
While getting submissions from native Texas women will be a thrill, the most
important guideline is that you are a Texan now or were a Texan when the
romantic event occurred.
Your stories should make the skin tingle and the heart melt. It should touch the
soul of a true romantic but should NEVER contain any violence or explicit sex.
Love Texas Style will settle for nothing less than stories filled with dignity
and class.
All stories should have a beginning, middle and end and should be filled with
characters who are real and touching. We expect your stories will at times cause
tears, but they should always end uplifting, powerful, and, of course, romantic.
Guidelines for
Love Texas
Style
1. Tell an exciting and/or funny story about the most romantic moment of your
life. Make sure we are introduced to your character(s). Readers will want to
identify with them just as you did, so be very descriptive.
2. Don't be afraid to go back in time to set up your story. Action and
expression are a must to keep readers interest. Make sure the setting and time
period you are writing about is well described. If that first kiss happened
while hand-cranking ice cream and listening to a 1927 radio show, we want to
know!
3. We don't want a dry eye in the house. Any romantic worth their beans will
need a tissue after reading your story, so really let loose. Remember, we are
TEXANS! Really give your romantic story that Texas Style. Show how special it is
to be living and loving in the Lonestar State.
4. All submissions should be submitted typed and double spaced on plain white
8-1/2" x 11" paper, in 12-point Times Roman font with 1 inch margins. No email
submissions will be considered.
5. Type all contact information in the upper left-hand corner of the first
page of your story.Stories should be non-fiction, ranging in length between
200-2000 words. Your story should have a title.
6. Stories should be mailed in a flat, 9" x 12" envelope.
7. No anonymous or author unknown submissions.
8. Send only one copy of each submission, but you may submit as many stories
as you wish.
9. If you would like your story returned, please include a SASE, and do not
send your only copy in the event it is lost. If you would like to know your
submission was received, enclose a SASP with your submission.
Illustrator Guidelines
We will be placing numerous black and white illustrations throughout the book.
Illustrations will be presented as 1/4 page to 1/2 page (based on a 8-1/2" X 11"
sheet of paper) in the book and should show romantic humor (Texas Style romantic
humor will be considered first). Please DO NOT send original artwork.
Topics for
Love Texas Style
This book will contain many different topics. Choose the one that best
fits your romantic moment. And if none of these fit, send your story anyway.
These topics can change without notice and more topics might be added. State on your submission which topic you are writing for.
1. Love at First Sight
2. Puppy Love (Grade school through high school crushes)
3. Love on the Lamb (Elopements)
4. Forever Love (Married over 20 years)
5. Love on a Budget (The lean years)
6. Special Occasions (Anniversary, Birthday, Christmas, New Years, etc.)
7. Close to Quits (Hard times in a relationship that turned around)
8. Kiss and Make Up (Big fights turned romantic)
9. Candlelight and Roses (Most romantic dinners)
10. Romance and Rugrats (Keeping the love alive with small children in your
life)
11. Other (Any other stories that don't fit the above topics)
Submission Process
If your story passes the first round by our editorial staff, we will notify you
by email (please include your email address in the contact information on the
first page of your story). Rejections will also be sent by email.
If the story you wrote is
published, you will be paid $10.00 upon publication of the story. You will also
get a 1/4 page bio at the end of your story as well as having your name and
information posted in the Featured Author section of the Blooming Tree Press
website.
Please be patient with us. It will take many months for the editorial staff to
review and carefully consider each submission. It could take up to six months
following the deadline for you to receive word that your story has been
selected. At that time you will be notified by mail and your permission to print
will be requested.

CALL FOR SUBMISSION:
DOWN CAME AN ANGEL (an anthology of true stories that show
God's love is real.) God loves us so much, He sends His angels to watch over us.
DOWN CAME AN ANGEL seeks true stories that show how God works every day miracles
on earth through His angels. Sometimes God sends His angels to answer the
prayers from a little girl searching for her lost kitten. Sometimes His angels
appear in the nick of time to stop a dog from biting its victim, or help someone
when they run out of gas. Sometimes the angel's job is to hold the hand of
someone who is frightened or alone. Sometimes His angels are sent to save lives.
When these mysterious helpers appear, we feel peace and love radiating from them
and we know in our hearts that we have been touched by one of God's Messengers.
Has He sent an angel to help you in your time of need? If so, share your
experience with those who have not been so blessed.
Down Came an Angel
asks for non-exclusive rights to use the work in the
original edition and any reprints, for advertising and promotional purposes.
Authors will receive a by line and bio including email or website information,
and one copy of the book upon publication. Stories will be edited as required.
Authors will be asked for final approval prior to publicationVisit
our website and tell us your story:
