Publication: DOSES OF DEATH: A Macabre Collection of Small-Town Terror by America's New and Emerging Writers

We're looking for a few good stories! DOSES OF DEATH, an anthology with a planned release date of October 2005 (to coincide with Halloween) will feature 13 tales by up-and-coming writers on the theme of "Death in a Small Town." This theme is open to interpretation, but all submissions must follow these simple guidelines:

-Word count: minimum 3,000; maximum 10,000

-No erotica or poetry

Payment will consist of 5 percent of total royalties, one contributor's copy, and the satisfaction of knowing your work was chosen to stand out above the crowd. Additionally, each story will be illustrated with a high-quality custom black-and-white rendering that may be used by the author for personal web sites and/or promotional purposes. All contributors will retain full rights to their stories, but must electronically sign a Basic Participation & Release Agreement.

To submit a story for consideration in DOSES OF DEATH, please do the following:

-Check your story carefully for grammar and spelling errors. This will improve your chances of acceptance.

-Compose a brief (one to two paragraph) author bio, along with a short (also one to two paragraph) description of your story.

-Send your story either in the body of an e-mail that includes the above information, or as an attachment in Rich Text Format, to either author@swvaughn.com or jlcampbellnh@aol.com with the subject: Doses of Death Submission

We will try to respond to all submissions within two weeks. If you don't hear from us by then, feel free to e-mail again and enquire about the status of your submission.

We look forward to reading your work!

Deadline for submissions: June 30, 2005

Chicken Soup for the Sister's Soul II
Share Your Favorite Story

She's the one who can make you giggle uncontrollably at the dinner table by making a funny face, she teased you about your taste in your first boyfriend, she offered her clothes and advice even when neither suited your style; she knows instantly by the tone of your voice when something's wrong, even though she's miles away.

Chances are you recognize this person if you're lucky enough to have a sister. Whether you share this connection with genetics or the heart, by common parents or common adventure, only the two of you understand your deep and dynamic bond. Sisters II will once again celebrate that bond and the sisters that helped you through life's ups and downs.

We are excited to announce we are collecting stories for Sister's Soul II

Topics will include but not be limited to:

  • A Sister's Love
  • Insights and Lessons
  • Sibling Revelry
  • Overcoming Obstacles
  • The Bond Between Sisters
  • Sisters By Heart
  • Oh Brother!
  • Special Memories

We’re looking for inspirational, true stories, 1000 words or less, that will make readers laugh, cry, or sigh. Stories should be positive, universal, and non-controversial. The “point” or “message” should be evident without preaching. No essays, commentaries, tributes, philosophical or biographical pieces will be accepted.

You may submit more than one story, whether original or a favorite from magazines, newspapers, or other sources. For each story selected in the book, a 50-word biography will be included about the author and a permission fee of $200 will be paid. The submission deadline is August 31, 2005.

Please submit stories through our website at www.chickensoup.com. Please select Sister's II as the book title.

Due to the volume of stories we receive, we are unable to respond to each contribution. Finalist, only, will be notified prior to publication.

We look forward to reading your submission!

Last year we sent out a call for submissions for our next book They Lied! True Tales of Weddings and Honeymoons and the response we received was fantastic.

It was so good in fact that we’ve decided to expand the call for submissions to October 15th, 2005 to get even more of those funny, unexpected, knee slapping stories.

You know the kind of story we mean – the ones that sound a little hard to believe and may not have seemed all that funny at the time, but you look back on them now and can’t stop yourself from laughing out loud – that’s what we want!  From off-beat engagements, to ceremony catastrophes; from dueling in-laws and reception disasters to honeymoon hijinx, we want to hear it all.

This is your chance to share your story with the world and become a published author.  If your story is selected, you will be paid a one-time fee of $100.00 US.

Check out the FAQ section of our web site:  www.theyliedtruetales.com for submission guidelines.

Come on and send us your stories, we’d love to read them!
