December Calls for Submissions
Find Anthologies Online most recent calls for Submissions on our home page.
Call for Submissions: Short Fiction Our Contemporary Fiction department is currently accepting submissions for a short story anthology to be published next fall. We are looking for original work that is cutting-edge, dynamic and unique. We want to see your individual style and flair, not an aspiration to be someone else. A dark tone is appealing, particularly in terms of humor and wit. Material that definitely will not grab us is preachy, politically motivated, self-conscious and overly opinionated. Please do not send us submissions in the following categories: · Romance / Bodice-ripper · Religious (and we do mean all religions) · Fantasy (we like Sci Fi, but please send the dragon stories to someone else) · Erotica (integral sexual content is fine; money-shot fiction is not for us) · True Crime (figure it out) · Whodunit/Mystery (a component of mystery is fine, but we’re not looking for detective yarns) · Childrens’ · Gay/Lesbian/Minority (we don’t care what gender, sexuality or race your characters happen to be. However if that’s the only thing your story is about we’ll probably file it under ‘religious’ ) Any submissions in these categories will be disregarded. If you do decide to send one of the above, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope so that we can send it back to you. To give you an understanding of the qualities we're looking for, here are the names of a few of our favourite authors. Keep in mind that we don't want a clone of their work; the list is intended only to help you decide if your writing could be of interest to us. · Chuck Palahniuk · Robert Rankin · Jeff Noon · Neil Gaiman · Carl Hiaasen Please send a printed copy of your short story along with a query letter (see below) and SASE to: Sophie Fulton Hygeine CO 80533 Mark your envelope ‘Anthology Submission’. This is a fantastic opportunity for unpublished writers to have your work read and possibly developed without needing to have an agent to get a foot in the door.
