Krack'd Pot Moms—

An Anthology of Humorous Mommy-related Life Stories

A

few years ago I was in a Bible study group of over 100 women and heard a presentation about the Proverbs 31 Woman. You know her—she's the one who could apparently do it all. She was the ideal woman, or so I thought. I learned that day that God didn't want us to be perfect, and He certainly didn't expect us to be all the things that woman was. He merely put together the best qualities and said, "I'm showing you the best parts of every woman on the face of this earth; find what works for you and do your best in that area."

Y

ou could've heard the sighs of relief for miles as we sat there literally thanking the Lord for releasing us from the bondage of perfection. But the lesson didn't stop there. We were asked to write down how we felt and then share those feelings table by table. As each table read their compilation, we began to realize that we were not alone, that we were all going through very similar situations. But something happened when we got to my table. The solemn accounts of feeling overwhelmed and under-appreciated were about to be replaced with laughter. I was asked to show the doodle I had drawn representing the feelings of our group. You've probably met this woman on one occasion or another.

T

he woman I drew had curlers in her head with wiry, strung out strands pointing in every direction, as though she had been electrocuted. She must have had make-up on at one time, because her mascara was running down her cheeks, her eyes looked swollen, and you could even see a tear. She was thin, but her mid-section looked bloated. And there were words scribbled in among her wired-looking hair—words like: "bloated," "stressed," "PMS," "overwhelmed," "broken," "unloved," "lonely," "over-worked," "crazy," "frazzled," "stretched to the limit," and so on. Her mid-section boldy proclaimed the word "CHAOS."

A

fter the Bible study was over, women came up to me asking for a copy of that doodle, as a reminder of the day's lesson.

I

t was then that I realized I wanted to do more with that doodle. I wanted to lift the spirits of moms everywhere. I wanted to take the crazy, stressed-out days filled with feelings of failure and turn them into comedic life lessons. But whom was I kidding? This was a fluke! I surely wasn't a comic, and I wouldn't dare say that I was—even if I did know a good, clean joke when I heard one.

D

id you ever have one of those days when nothing seemed to go right? When you were ready to pull your hair out or scream at the top of your lungs? Yet, even while you were standing there feeling like a lunatic with a bazooka, others couldn't help but laugh at your situation? Was there a day when you felt your life should have been in a sitcom?

W

e want to read about those days and compile them into a book entitled Krack'd Pot Moms to be published by Obadiah Press.

Alyice I. Edrich
Compiler of Krack'd Pot Moms

    Amazing Grace for Fathers

My name is Robert Blodgett. I am the author of a book called "Family First: Tales of a Working Father." I'm working on my second book with Ascension Press publishing. Its part of a series of a books...the first of which was just released in September. Already, the book has sold close to 12,000 copies.

The book I'm working on is called Amazing Grace for Fathers. It is intended to celebrate the joys, challenges, and experiences of fathers and fatherhood. Written for fathers, it will contain articles (long and short), poems, jokes, anecdotes, odes, and more about and for fathers. This is a great chance for any writer to tell everyone about dad, or share your stories of his heroism, humor, weirdness or just plain-old fatherly love with the world.

    Length

Each article should be approximately 50-3,000 words (exceptions can be made, but this will give you a general range).

    Deadline

Articles can be submitted at any time. If you wish to be considered for this first collection of articles and submissions for the Amazing Grace for Fathers book, please submit your writing on or before February 1, 2003.

    General Considerations

If you have a longer story in mind, you are welcome to submit a short summary of this story (one to five paragraphs) or the actual "first draft" of the full story.

If possible, please use the font "Geneva" (or other sans-serif type); Size: 12 pt.

Allow one inch on all margins of document, top, bottom, left, right. Use double space. Capitalize God, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit and/or other divine pronouns.

Numerals: Age is always given in numerals; Spell out numbers below 10, use figures for 10 and above. For other style questions: Catholic News Service Stylebook on Religion; United Press International Stylebook. Please spell-check your submission. Text should be left-justified with ragged right margins. Please do not use spaces in place of tabs and use only one space following punctuation between sentences. Indicate italicized type by using all caps in the word or phrase. Include a short biography of yourself. Include your name, street address, phone, and email address with the submission.

We prefer originally stories that have not appeared in other publications, but this is not mandatory.

We reserve the right to edit all submissions for clarity and length and other company policies.

    Response Time

We will typically let you know within 3-6 weeks as to whether we will or will not use your story.

    Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with the length of the submission and varies according to the different books in the Amazing Grace Series. Compensations varies from basic author recognition, to a free book, to web links, to a few hundred dollars. For the Amazing Grace for Fathers Book, compensation will range from a free book to $100 and special discounts on the purchase of additional books.

    Copyright

The writer retains the copyright for the story. I will not claim any rights to the overall story and the writer is free to submit it elsewhere. Ascension Press does receive complete, unrestricted rights to the actual version of the story supplied to use in any format, including print, audio, video and electronic formats once it is submitted. If the story is supplied to any other entity, it must differ in some manner to the story supplied or permission to use the exact version of your story must be received in writing from the Publisher.

    Pictures

Should we accept your story, you will asked to submit pictures of you and, very possibly, other people or places that relate to your story. These pictures will, in most cases, be used just on the Amazing Grace website in connection with this particular book.
