glorious experiences or teachers encountered along one's
spiritual journey. Other possible themes include soul-nurturing
practices or relationships; discovering a spiritual path, truth,
or kindred spirit; receiving and actualizing (putting into
positive action) a spiritual lesson or epiphany; divine
intervention and direction.

A CUP OF COMFORT FOR MOTHERS AND SONS
Celebrating the powerful bond between mothers and sons. Possible themes include:
positive impact of mother on son or son on mother; cherished or challenging
experiences shared; connecting or reconnecting with one another; unique and
uplifting aspects of
mother-son relationship.
DEADLINE: January 31, 2004
LENGTH: 1000-2000 words
PAYMENT: $500 Grand Prize will be awarded to one story per
volume; $100 will be paid for each story published. Payment on
publication.
RIGHTS: The publisher (Adams Media Corporation) reserves limited
use rights for a specified period of time. Rights retained by the
author include serial (periodical) rights, live performance, and
film right. Authors also retain the right to publish the story in
a book comprised solely of her/his original works.

Fish Publishing Short Story

Fish Publishing is an independent company based in West Cork, Ireland, which
is dedicated to publishing new writers. In the ten years since Fish was started,
we have given 150 writers the thrill of seeing their work published in book
form. Many of these writers have gone on to make successful careers as authors.
As, this coming year is the 10th anniversary of the Fish Short Story Prize, the
prize money has been significantly increased to mark this
special occasion.
The First Prize is now €2,500 (US$2,500 approx.), an increase of €1,000.
Second Prize is a week at the Anam Cara Writers’ and Artists’ Retreat, located
on West Cork’s magical Beara, Peninsula PLUS €250. And the Third Prize is €250.
This makes the Fish Short Story Prize one of the most lucrative.
Since the beginning, Fish has always endeavoured to secure judges of
international calibre. This year is no exception and we are delighted that Roddy
Doyle, Victoria Glendinning and Hugo Hamilton will be judging the 2003/4
competition.

Fish Short Story Prize 2003/04
First Prize: €2,500 (£1,700, US$2,500 (approx.)

Top 15 stories will be published in the Fish 2004 anthology, and will be
read by several literary agents, including Shirley Stewart and Merric
Davidson.

Details & Rules:
- Closing date 30th November 2003
- The competition is open to writers from all countries, but stories
must be in English. There is no restriction on theme or style. Max.
5,000 words.
- For postal entries, stories must be typed. On a separate sheet include
name, address, telephone number and E-mail address if possible.
- Stories will not be returned unless they are to be critiqued. They
cannot be altered or changed once submitted. Critiques cost €45 (£35,
US$45) per story.
- The judges' verdict is final.
- Entry fee: €15 (£11) ($15) for the first, €10 (£8) ($10) per
subsequent story.
- For receipt of entry or results, include S.A.E. or E-mail. State what
information you require. On-line entrants will be informed
automatically.

If you would like critique of your story/stories, please include:
Request for appraisal; SAE for return of story; €45 (£35), ($45) per
story. The critique will be considered and constructive, aimed at
helping you to improve your story and work generally. It will be at
least 250 words. For email appraisals, payment MUST be made on line.

Milieu press, a new press for women writers in Canada invites submissions for
our second annual portfolio anthology. milieu press is devoted to inventive,
edgy, visionary women writers who occupy the page with unintimidated narratives
and imaginative forms. Our portfolio anthology will feature selections from
works-in-progress by emerging to established women writers of poetry, creative
non-fiction, and lyric prose.
The intention of this annual anthology is to provide a more immediate glimpse
of cutting edge work currently being written in Canada. We anticipate that the
selected 15-20 portfolios will, by proximity, invigorate a broader dscourse
regarding content and craft not only among women writers but for readers and
those working within the literary industry.

Colloquial Theater Presents
