Cop Tales

( and Tails find out about the Cop Tails at the bottom of the page)

Who knew? I didn't. Many police officers and former officers are writers.   Our recent thoughts about police sacrifices in relationship to the September 11th tragedy, and our featured author Mel Miskimen have focused our attention on the police.  Since Mel (a cop's kid, in fact the Cop's Kid) calls her father policeman a cop--I feel I've been given permission to call them Cops also.

Here's a run down on some of the talent cops who inspire, serve and protect.  All are published in Cop Stories 2000.

Authors include , Jim Defilippi, Gina Gallo, Marilyn A. Olsen,  and

Ed Dee served the NYPD for twenty year, both as a uniformed officer and a supervisor. He retired as a Lieutenant. He holds a BA from Fordham University and a MFA in creative writing from Arizona State.

Paul Bishop is a A twenty-three-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department.  Publishers' Weekly called KILL ME AGAIN,  "gripping, intense, labyrinthine, complex, and compelling."

Police Heroes honors and celebrates those members of America's police force who take the oath to protect and serve seriously. These men, women, and K-9 officers are asked to put their personal safety aside for a greater good on a daily basis, but sometimes the call of duty is above and beyond even their expectations. You're about to meet some remarkably courageous individuals, all of whom acted bravely in the most trying, life-threatening situations.

SJ Rozan, author of Stone Quarry
Cop Tales 2000 is the real deal. The voices and the lives of real cops--sometimes funny, sometimes dark, often adrenaline-drenched and always full of hard-won knowledge--shine from these pages. Real cops--and real writers, too.

What Cops Know: Cops Talk About What They Do, How They Do It, and What It Does to Them

"For anybody who ever wondered what it's like behind a badge, this is the book."--San Francisco Chronicle. HC: Villard.

September 11...Columbine High School...Vietnam...the Great Depression. There are many terrible moments in American history that horrified us as a nation.  In this special God Allows U-Turns book, the fourth in Allison Gappa Bottke's acclaimed series, Americans relate how nationalGod Allows U-Turns trials brought them to their knees-first in shock, then in prayer.
Cop's Kid: A Milwaukee Memoir

Growing up, Mel Miskimen thought that a gun and handcuffs on the kitchen table were as normal as a gallon of milk and a loaf of Mrs. Karl's bread. Her father, a Milwaukee cop for almost forty years was part Super Hero (He simply held up his hand and three lanes of traffic came to a screeching halt) and part Supreme Being (he could be anywhere at anytime. I never knew when or where he would pop up.) Miskimen's memoir, told in humorous vignettes, tells what it was like for a girl growing up with a dad who packed a lunch and packed heat.
K-9 Cops:A collection of true cases from across the country explores the stories of the men and women who train, lead, and converse with the special canine helpers who assist in criminal investigations.
