Anthologies and the nonfiction writer
Why publish in anthologies?
Anthologies offer
writers opportunities to get more work published.
Pulitzer winning authors, best sellers, and famous people
around the world must agree, because they publish in anthologies too. There is
room for caution and writers should consider the motives of anthology editors.
Yet writers like
Elmore Lenoard and
Steven King both just published short stories in the Anthology
Amazing Tales.
Sebastian Junger,
Annie Proulx, and
Jane Smiley have published essays in Anthologies by
Outside
Magazine.
Ernest J. Gaines,
Terry McMillian,
Irving Wallace, and
Ray Bradbury-- all published in
Chicken Soup for the Writer's Soul.
Freelance writer Jennifer Nelson, whose work regularly appears in "Woman's Day",
"Parenting", "Fitness", "SHAPE," " Health,", "Writer's Digest" and others has
published in the
Chocolate for a Woman's Soul Series.
AnthologiesOnline.com Featured author
Nanette Thorsen-Snipes
has sold her essay, "The Greatest of These" eight times to different
anthologies. She's carefull to avoid selling all rights to an anthology.
Writers can mine their journals and half finished stores.
Scan calls for submissions and when you find a
match with a journal entry or essay start, you have the impetus to finish the
work according to the editor call.
The
attention to writers calls for submissions
hones your writing skills and helps your
writing acumen to grow.
Consider anthology markets to pump up your list of credits, be published
along side of well-known authors, motivate writing growth and as a market to
resell manuscripts.

Call for Nonfiction Manuscripts "A
Moment in Time"
Writers who have been invited may submit short essays that
contain a split scene. All entries should begin with a scene that is
interrupted by additional rhetorical strategies. These may include
narrative that includes analysis, details, facts, feelings. Additional
scenes or language that suggests a scene may also be used. This anthology is to
be written for a general audience. We seek works that include
use of
literary devices and surprising language. Essays should be less than 500
words.
