In 2002 Guideposts will publish an important new book about animals and people. The title is THEIR MYSTERIOUS WAYS and it will include true stories about the miraculous impact of animals in our lives. Many of you have already written stories for our best-selling series, LISTENING TO THE ANIMALS, and we hope you will be inspired toparticipate in this project.

Surely, if you have known, loved and been loved by an animal, you know that their special mission is to bring us closer to God and his love for us. Very often we can't explain their ability to comfort us, guide us, and even heal us, but we accept their blessings with a grateful heart. Has the companionship of an animal lifted your spirits in a time ofsadness? Has the love and trust of a pet helped you to turn your life around? Has your faith been strengthened by the example of an animal? Has an animal made you aware of the joy to be found in each day of yourlife? Write us about your experiences.

The deadline for submission of these stories is December 15, 2001. If your story is accepted, you will be paid and receive a copy of the book when it is published.

Here are the chapter titles and themes:

1 Life-Changing Moments: When animals help us to confront our adversities and rebuild our shattered lives

2 Gifts From God: When an animal helps us to carry a burden that was too heavy for us to bear alone

3 Special Messengers: When animals guide us toward making decisions about the direction our lives will take

4 In Time of Danger: When animals save us from harm

5 A Healing Touch: When the love of an animal is the medicine that makes us whole again

6 Finding the Way Home: Miraculous journeys of animals who refuse to be separated from the people they love

7 Comfort in the Hard Times: When animals bring us reassurance after disaster

8 Unexpected Guests: Animals who suddenly appear to let us know how much God loves us.

9 Saying Goodbye: When the spirit of a beloved animal lives on in our lives

THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF FUTURE CRIME/COPS: The future will not berocket ships and aliens, "To boldly go where no-one has gonebefore", or pure-hearted heroes fighting black-hearted villains. The future in The Mammoth Book of Future Crime/Cops is dark -- aworld of ambiguity, of good men gone bad and bad men doing good. The world of this book is our world of today, turned sideways. This is the future of Blade Runner and Akira, the world of copsand crooks written across a bleak, end times landscape of urbandecay, pollution, corruption, of multinational organizationspulling the strings of governments and controlling the world andour daily lives in an occult manner and cyber big-brothering. Aworld on its last legs, barely holding together. It's a worldwhere hardcore noir crime fiction has expanded into nightmarishproportions.

The Mammoth Book of FUTURE CRIME/COPS is open to many differentstyles and genres, but all stories must be about crime andcriminals set in a very near, familiar future environment - thinknoir rather than science fiction. Suggested themes include: lastgood cops stalk murderers across corrupt cities torn apart byviolence, sagging with decay; two-bit hoods and gangstahsscavenge for that one score that will finally lift them out oftheir death-trap lives; bizarre drugs and even more bizarrecriminals lurk in the pitch-black warrens of continent-sizedurban battle zones; men and women equipped with frighteningweapons and grotesque body modifications try to hold back the newwaves of evil and crime.

THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF ROAD STORIES: The road is an enduring, enthralling symbol of transition, adventure and discovery. FromJason and the Argonauts to Jack Kerouac, the Road has representedjourneys more exciting than the destination, and transition fromone place and state of mind to another. The journey, the quest, the road tale/movie has for ages immemorial fascinated writersand film makers and been the consistent backbone of the art ofthe narrative, from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales to modernexponents such as Alex Garland's The Beach.

The Mammoth Book of Road Stories is open to many differentstyles and genres, but all stories must be about the love of theopen road, of rolling down the window to feel the miles breezeby. Suggested themes include: cops and crooks barreling downmidnight boulevards; summer vacations gone wildly wrong;sentimental journeys made in hope and despair; ancient travels ofwandering wise men; post-apocalyptic road warriors andhigh-octane nightmares; tales of truck stops and gas stations;parodies and variations on such classic road pictures as Thelmaand Louise and Vanishing Point or even the "Road" films of Hopeand Crosby; stories of fast driving and reckless cornering;explorations of the seduction of the open road and modernwanderlust; stories of the lives of traveling salesmen and harddriving, hard living truckers; and many, many more.

Participants in this anthology will have the honor of beingpublished alongside such notables as Jack Kerouac (On The Road),John Steinbeck (The Grapes of Wrath), and Hunter S. Thompson (TheRum Diary) and many others.

PAYMENT: $150 for original stories, $100 for reprints
LENGTH: 2,500 - 10,000 words maximum

ANTHOLOGY OF MASCULIST LITERATURE

I am now seeking written works (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, journalistic commentary/articles) for publication in a new anthology of masculist literature. I plan to compile these works over a year's time and publish them as a collection in both e-book and physical form (if possible). Any writers interested in contributing to this compendium may do so by e-mailing me at nightmist@mensactivism.org.

Anthology Submission Requirements

Work must be submitted in either Word, HTML, or text format. There is no specific length requirement, but considering that this is an anthology of many authors, we don't want one dominated the entire book. I'd recommend that longer works be no longer than 10,000 words. We are attempting to cover ALL aspects of the men's movement in some form or other. That means you have a wide range of topics to choose to write about. Because we don't want everyone writing about the same topic, it would be wise to submit your topic idea to me before you begin writing or submit your work.

After all works have been collected, they will be judged for inclusion by a yet-to-be-determined team of judges. The final work will be co-edited by myself and Steve Imparl. You will retain the copyright on any work you submit to us. We only ask permission to edit your work for mistakes and clarity, and for the rights to publish it in this anthology and any future revisions or redistributions of this anthology.

There is no guarantee of financial reward for your work in this anthology. It's a labor of love for now. If it does end up turning a profit, we will distribute those profits equally among the authors.

All works will be given equal consideration. We do have a couple of really big names who have expressed an interest in contributing to this anthology. However, we will not be judging works on name recognition or value. Works will be judged on their relevance to the overall topic of masculism and quality of writing.

Submission Ideas

We are looking for works about any and all of the following:

Divorce
Fatherhood
Choice for Men
Men and the media
Male bashing
Male stereotypes (breaking the molds)
Male stereotypes (fulfilling the old roles)
Men's Health
Education
Feminism
Comparisons of Individualist Feminism and the Men's Movement
War and the Selective Service
Domestic Violence
Male rape
The criminalization of men/men in prison
Circumcision
The feminization of boys/young men

Types of Works

Poetry
Fiction
