length between 1 - 4 pages (double-spaced copy) on the following topics:

EVERY "BODY" CHANGES: body image, puberty, weight, acne/completion.

THE PRESSURE'S ON: having the latest "everything," being in the right clothes in the right place at the right time, makeup, hair, making tryouts - you name it.

CRUSHIN' HARD: figuring out the boy thing - first boyfriends, first kisses, getting hurt, bouncing back.

MEET THE PARENTS: changing relationships with mom and dad, new boundaries and house rules, dealing with divorce, special relationships with moms, thinking that parents are suddenly, totally lame.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS—A Poetry Anthology

We are seeking poetry submissions for our new University of Iowa Press anthology, Red, White, & Blues: Poetic Vistas on the Promise of America (scheduled for Fall 2004 publication). Our intention  is to bring together a chorus of contemporary American
poets on the ideas of liberty, democracy, patriotism, and the American Dream—a 21st century "Song of Myself" for the entire country. This project is more than just a momentary taking stock of ourselves, it’s a
roadmap of

(1) where we’ve been (our sense of history),

(2) where and who we are (national identity and character), and most importantly,

(3) where we’reheaded (a re-envisioning of community, freedom, and the independent spirit of America). Feel free tochallenge the thematic and stylistic limits of these
guidelines, and in doing so, help us best represent the range, depth, and veracity of America’s plural voice(s).

TO SUBMIT: Send 3-6 poems for our consideration (along with a short 3 – 5 line bio) to Ryan G. Van Cleave at the address below. Please include an SASE or email address so we can promptly respond to your work. NO EMAIL SUBMISSIONS PLEASE.

Queries and submissions may be addressed to: naturalfamily @ busyparentsonline.com

The Natural Family section of Busy Parents Online is not yet a paying market. For business owners, we provide some promotional support and active URL's to your site.

Busy Parents Online Magazine is accepting submissions for every section. Writer's Guidelines can be found at:

http://busyparentsonline.com/Writing/submissionguidelines.htm

The Natural Family section has an immediate need for essays on the following topics:

*Big Natural Families
Do you have a large family? Do you breastfeed, cloth diaper, co-sleep, eat natural foods, homeschool, or otherwise practice natural parenting? We want to hear from you! Tell us about your family. Why did you decide to have a big family? What are the rewards? The challenges? Where do you put everybody? How do you make ends meet? How do you respond to criticism about your lifestyle choices? How is natural parenting conducive to large family living?

*Vegetarian/Vegan Families
Are you a natural family living a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle? Tell us about it! Why did you make this lifestyle choice? What are the rewards? The challenges? How do you respond to those who criticize your diet? What advice do you have for families considering the transition to a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle?

*Adversity, Backlash and Isolation
Despite our utopian ideals, natural family living is not all goodness and light. How do negative media portrayals of the natural family affect your family? Do you feel isolated from the natural parenting community due to your race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or some other factor? Have you been shunned by other natural families due to your choices regarding vaccination, circumcision, etc.? It is time these issues were aired openly. Let us educate one another and foster understanding and tolerance within our community.

*Natural Family Travel and Travails
Did Aunt Martha feed your vegan children hot dogs? Did the laundromat attendant forbid you to wash your cloth diapers? Did your in-laws require medical assistance after discovering you sleep with your children? Did the man sitting next to you in the airplane ask to be reseated when you began breastfeeding your toddler? If you have a humorous story about the challenges of natural family travel, we want to hear about it! Tell us about your trials, your tribulations, and give us tips for traveling with our natural families.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
