SEEKING PERSONAL ESSAYS, MEMOIR EXCERPTS AND AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL SHORT STORIES FOR "UNHOLY MOTHERS," A CROSS-CULTURAL, INTERNATIONAL LITERARY ANTHOLOGY EXPLORING THE SHADOW SIDE OF MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS.

Seeking personal essays, memoir excerpts and autobiographical short stories for an anthology of well-known and emerging writers exploring their survival and self-empowerment as they emerge from the shadows of their mothers' motherhood. "Unholy Mothers" seeks to redress the balance in literature about daughters and mothers, most of which portrays mothers in a near-reverent light, obscuring the truth of many women's lives that rather than loving them, their mothers feared or resented them or, in some cases, were simply uninterested in mothering. In spite of not receiving the traditional love and nurturing that mothers are supposed to give, the writers reveal how they have made sense of themselves and their lives. The collection also includes an exploration of why, from the daughters' point of view, mothers were unable to love or nurture their daughters, including personal history, socio-economic or other pressures.

Edited by Margo Perin. To be published by Tarcher/Putnam with a tentative publication date of Spring 2003.

What Do Women Want? / What Do Men Want?

Anthologies Online asks the impossible question. We are planning a series of anthologies. The first to be announced is the What do Women Want? What Do Men Want? series.

Your editor is looking for smart, funny, angry, touching, spiritual, or academic essays from 500 to 3,500 words based on what each gender wants from a mate. We want different voices of different ages and cultures to explore this topic. Please write from only one point of view (What Women Want or What Men Want) per essay.
