Teachers. We've all had
them. Some were amazing and inspiring; others not-so-much. But all
of them have influenced our lives.
We are collecting true stories
for a new anthology series, Chalkdust on the Sleeve of My Soul, and we
would like to read yours.
If you are or were a
teacher…
Share with us stories of how
you chose the field. What brought you into this overworked,
underappreciated vocation? Why do you stay? When have you been most
fulfilled?
We're also seeking stories of
the lessons you learned from your students, your favorite teaching moments, and
your advice for others just starting out.
If you had a teacher…
Tell us about the one who
changed your life. The one who made a difference. Who took the time
to show how much s/he cared -- how much you mattered. The one who
introduced you to life or protected you from it.
Tell us about the teacher who
taught you more than facts and figures. Or the one who really knew how to
teach. Share your favorite school memories.
The details…
Submissions must be in

Writing Creative Nonfiction: Instruction...The contributors (Annie Dillard, Phillip Lopate,
Barry Lopez, Terry Tempest Williams, et al.) spend the first half of the
book discussing creative nonfiction and the second half demonstrating it.
Not only does the format work, but pairing the works of creative nonfiction
with the accompanying commentary is educational and entertaining. These
authors know how to get published and will help you too!
WideThinker Books
will be publishing an anthology on
women's sexuality in the near future.

movies – and the role they’ve played in our lives – for an upcoming anthology
(working title, Movie Mania). Tell us the story about a run-in with a
movie star, the night you and your friends stayed up all night watching movies,
the time you spent working in a movie theater, or even the time you tried to
make your very own movie.

STORIES NEEDED ABOUT PETS, THEIR OWNERS AND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THEM
I am currently working on an anthology of short stories detailing the complex
relationships between owners and their pets. Can be any animal, from a
chicken to a pig to a cow, but should show a moral -- teach a lesson, as it
were.
The anthology is designed to teach without lecturing, tell without telling,
educate by giving examples. Endings may be happy or tear-jerkers, but all
must instill in the reader a small gasp, a small "I never realized that!" so
they may grow in their relationships to their animals, and so animals may
suffer less in the hands of their owners, even though the owners' intentions
are well-meant.
Stories may run between 500 and 2,000 words, and each should be followed by
the author's name, address, email (for my purposes only), plus an author's bio
of 50-75 words.
At the present time, each author chosen would receive a free copy of the
book. When it is in the printing stage, authors may pre-order copies at cost
to re-sell themselves or give away as gifts, and the person who sells the
most pre-sale copies will also get five to ten more free books, depending upon
the amount sold. If the book becomes a best seller, or is extremely popular,
they would share in the royalties twice a year. It is an excellent starting
point for the writers looking to make it in this world, and another plus to
add to their resume.
Send your contributions via email to me at avisann@wzrd.net by March 1.
